The Ecoped consortium activities are numerous and so are the products that the Consortium makes available to its members and customers.
TERRABASICA is a product designed to solve easily and safely the problem of accidental spills of sulfuric acid.
Developed to protect people and goods, TERRABASICA is an effective neutralizer made with rich calcareous sands of calcium carbonate.
TERRABASICA is tested and approved by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, to provide a safe solution for professional users.
Because meets the specified standards, allowing the access to all necessary information all the time, through reliable and credited partners.
TERRABASICA is composed of limestone sands rich in calcium carbonate and, for this reason, it is not considered dangerous according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP) and subsequent amendments on chemicals.
TERRABASICA does not contain any lime, soda or other irritating corrosive and searing powders; it comes in resealable airtight bags.
It neutralizes effectively: it is enough just 800 grams per 1 liter of acid *. This allows garage shops and to keep a supply of only 20 kg (2 bags) to fulfill the requirements of the decree.
For each intended use it is prescribed a minimum quantity to be equipped with.
STARTER BATTERIESIf you are a garage shop you will only need 20 kg of TERRABASICA (2 buckets).
If you are a spare parts dealer, a car / motorcycle dealer you will only need 80 kg of TERRABASICA.
If you are a retailer/wholesaler you will only need 160 kg of TERRABASICA.
Batteries transportation: you will only need to be equipped with maximum of 40 kg of TERRABASICA following the Ministerial Decree 20/2011 for each vehicle that carries batteries, including those that transport waste or those serving in the event of accidents.
If you deal with starter batteries, just one bucket will be enough for about 25 batteries transported *.
* Assuming that the acid contained in a battery is 5 liters.
To facilitate the identification of the quantities of TERRABASICA, please have a look at the table showing the required number of buckets 10 kg (*), according to the weekly opening days of the collection centre.

(*) The TERRABASICA quantities have been evaluated in the case of car batteries with an average weight of 16 kg. The Collection Centre is open 52 weeks a year.
Regarding the steady state batteries, first you have to read the total amount of acid contained in 2 elements of the battery: if you have more batteries you only need to add up the quantities of acid contained in the two elements of each battery. Finally, multiply the total quantity (in liters) by 0.8. The result will be the total kg of TERRABASICA needed for your batteries.
As for portable batteries, read this amount of acid in the greater battery and multiply the quantity (in liters) to 0.8. The result gives the necessary TERRABASICA kg every 30 held portable batteries.
As far astraction batteries are concerned, wherever it's about carts circulating with those batteries or charging of traction batteries, the amount of TERRABASICA needed is evaluated based on the number of batteries and battery with the higher acid content.
If in such places it also occur maintenance and replacement of batteries the quantities MUST BE DOUBLED.
Up to 5 batteries: read the amount of acid contained in the major battery and multiply the amount of acid (in liters) by 0.4. The result is the required amount of TERRABASICA in kilos.
Up to 20 batteries: read the amount of acid contained in the major battery and multiply the amount of acid (in liters) by 0.8. The result is the required amount of TERRABASICA in kilos.
Over 20 batteries: read the amount of acid contained in the major battery and multiplies the amount of acid (in liters) by 1.6. The result is the required amount of TERRABASICA in kilos.
* Sulphuric Acid with a density of 1.27 kg / dm3, according to Ministerial Decree 20/2011
Once the absorption and neutralization reaction is exhausted (this should last about 20 minutes) the resulting solid can be easily removed or left in the spill area avoiding any secondary corrosive reactions.
The solid can also be collected using the empty container of the TERRABASICA for the next disposal through the authorized operator.
Laboratory tests have shown that the proper use of TERRABASICA for the absorption and neutralization of sulfuric acid generates a non-hazardous waste.
Of course the quality of the waste depends on the actual conditions of use and can be influenced by, for example, the density of the acid solution, the amount of TERRABASICA used and the possible use of TERRABASICA on surfaces or in dirty containers of waste oil or other hazardous substances. For this reason, the characterization of the waste, and responsibility, remains in charge of the user who will have to identify the correct recovery / disposal methods.
TERRABASICA is a neutralizing substance, therefore it is designed to protect against damage to property and persons and it is regulatedand sanctioned by the following decrees:
Legislative Decree 152/06 (Art.195, paragraph 2, letter Q)
It states that the temporary storage of waste should take place "in accordance with the relevant technical standards; moreover, for
hazardous waste, in compliance with rules governing the storage of dangerous substances contained in them";
D.M.20 / 2011.
It is precisely the technical standard of reference for the containment of pollution and accidents due to the spill of sulfuric acid.
